Remember that first week or so when everyone was posting all mad about how some folks are treating this like a vacation? I really fucking wish this felt like a vacation. It’s technically day 20 for me, but time no longer exists. Each day is a blob slowly, incrementally sliding under a door into the next. Baby’s got the bends.

I haven’t had this much fun in a very long time. I’m energized, I’m grateful, I’m embracing imperfection and feeling empowered by it. The first episode of my live podcast was a success, to me ✨ It will be available for all soon. Next ep will be announced Thursday. The lonlies are definitely kicking in for me. I rely so much on the connections I have with my Unlikely Hikers community. Leading group hikes is a tool of healing and mental wellness for me. Not knowing when we’ll be able to resume is painful. It also presents a time to embrace the unknown and imperfection and be creative. I’ve created two virtual Unlikely Hikers events that I intend to do through May and I’d love nothing more than your presence 🧡 TUESDAY, 3/31 – 5pm(pst) – the first ever Unlikely Hikers LIVE PODCAST! I have no experience, so why not just throw myself into this and do it live? Our first guest is Tasheon Chillous (she/her, @chilltash), a plus-size certified Personal Trainer and coach who believes movement should be adaptable, fun, and accessible. “I started biking in college when I couldn't afford a car. Somewhere between the sweaty climbs to the grocery store and flat tires on my way to work, I fell in love. I began going on bike rides for fun, something I hadn't done since I was a kid. As my rides got longer and longer, I couldn't help but wonder when I would begin to lose weight, I wondered when I would start to look like a ‘real cyclist.’ But after pedaling thousands of miles, across rolling corn fields, through dense rainforests, and over arctic mountain passes, I never lost a pound. It turns out you can be fat and ride a bike. I stopped riding a bike to change my body, and started riding a bike to celebrate what my body can do. Our new podcast and LIVE show is happening every Tuesday through May 2020! Our next episode will feature Will “Akuna” Robinson / @akunahikes! Will is an army vet who has used thru-hiking as a tool to manage PTSD. He is the first known Black man to earn the Triple Crown of hiking, which is the completion of the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail and Continental Divide Trail. “In 2015 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It took one day for it to leave me partially paralysed and 3 months to gain back the ability to walk. During that time, I lived in New Hampshire, the land of mountains and trees. As a black man in NH, I was already labeled as an unlikely hiker. Now a black man with MS in NH, I was a double minority. Funny thing, I became much more of an outdoorsman after I was diagnosed. The hiking, skiing, kayaking, and backpacking became a part of my physical therapy. Every time I hit the slopes or climbed a mountain I represented people of color and the MS community. And as my strength increased and I got back to feeling like myself again, I made sure to keep outdoor activities in my routine. From that day, I have been fortunate enough to do a feature hiking Mount Washington with PBS, model with L.L.
