2017 – place yourself directly in the trash Every Day Was Bad News. If you survived 2017 with a modicum of good mental health, my hat’s off to you. If you tragically asked me at any point, “how are you?” I’m sorry. My blank, wide blinking eyes and mouth trying to fix itself into words […]Read More All the Things I Didn’t Say in 2017
I am extremely excited to announce that Unlikely Hikers now has a logo! Two, actually! It’s been a long time coming. Both were designed and generously donated by, Cabin Supply Co (email@example.com). Kind of amazing. Why two logos? For alllll of the sweet merch that’s on its way. Also, the Unlikely Hikers page has been […]Read More Logos!
Every group hike is a learning experience for me, even when it goes “perfectly.” Especially because I don’t lead your average group. In 2015, I created an Instagram community called Unlikely Hikers, which features those often left out of the common outdoors narrative. This includes people of color, people of size, queer, trans and gender nonbinary folks, those with differing physical abilities and people living with mental health issues. Almost immediately after its creation, people started asking how they could participate in group hikes with the Unlikely Hikers community. The thing was, I’d never actually been on one.Read More REI Co-Op Blog: Building Community Through Group Hiking
Three very cool things I’m happy to announce: 1. I was on a podcast that I love and I feel amazing about being asked to guest! I kind of hate hearing myself talk, especially when I’m less than eloquent, but isn’t that just such a cliche thing to get hung up on? I really enjoyed […]Read More Three Things

Remember when I used to write and sometimes it was half-way good? I really miss that. All of these other forces, many of which are so good(!!!) keep distracting me. Fortunately, thanks to your donations, I have planned my first few days off purely to write and hike and scheme for all of you sweet […]Read More The world is garbage, but I’ve gotten more press!
When I can’t hike… When I can’t write… When I can’t sleep a full eight… When I can’t eat food I’ve cooked for myself… When I can’t camp or spend a day at a river… I suffer. I’m suffering for mostly the best reasons. I’m basically working two full time jobs with the pay of […]Read More Putting my own airbag on first.
