University Falls – One hour from Portland. “Easy.” Less than one mile of hiking. Tillamook State Forest.
Panther Creek Falls – One hour, twenty-five minutes from Portland. Two options, the “easy” one is a few hundred yards of walking. The other is a steep, unwieldy scramble. Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington.
Abiqua Falls & Butte Creek Falls – One hour, thirty-five minutes from Portland. The Butte Creek Falls trail is one mile, “easy,” well-graded and maintained. The Abiqua Falls “trail” is less than a mile, but extremely steep. Not recommended for the unsure-footed. High clearance vehicle recommended for Abiqua Falls. Santiam Foothills.
White River Falls – Two hours from Portland. A hundred yards of walking to a viewing platform, or you can take a very short (a few hundred yards), but steep trail down for a better view. Eastern Oregon, not far from The Dalles.
Vernonia Mill – Fifty minutes from Portland. A few hundred yards of walking on a sidewalk. Near the Tillamook State Forest, on the way to the coast.
