Accessible Group Hike – PORTLAND, OR – 2/1

PLEASE RSVP on form below for full info on hike (terrain details, carpooling, meet-up spots and time). Expect response e-mail within a few days. RSVPs close at 6pm (pst) the day prior to the hike.

Unlikely Hikers is creating supportive, intentional, body-positive outdoor community for people underrepresented in outdoor culture (people of color, people of size, trans, queer and beyond). We hike together slowly as a group. No hiker left behind! Absolutely no diet or weight loss talk. Be mindful of gender pronouns, group dynamics, microaggressions, cultural appropriation and different physical ability levels.

This event is in partnership with Next Adventure!

Date: Saturday, February 1st, 2019

Location: Trojan Park – Prescott, OR. About 45 minutes northwest of Portland.

Time: 9am (for carpooling)

Trail stats: 1.9 miles round trip, 29 ft elevation gain. Paved trail, mobility-device friendly.   We’ll be doing this trail: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/oregon/trojan-park-loop

What does “accessible” mean? In general, it means a lot of things! No space is 100% accessible. Our accessible hikes are specifically intended for those who have physical or health matters that may limit movement. Example: folks who use mobility devices, chronic pain cuties, fat folks, people who might be experimenting with exercise or in physical recovery and beyond! Everyone is welcome to join with consideration for our varying ability levels. Full disclosure: aside from mostly manageable chronic pain, I am an able-bodied, mid-fat person. It is important for me to create spaces that are welcoming to as many people as possible, but I have no formal disability leadership training. Ideally, one day we will have a disabled leader who can better represent these hikes. I have my Wilderness First Aid certification and eagerness and vulnerability working for me. I understand that it is my job to educate myself, but please don’t hesitate to let me know how I can do something better.

Dogs & kids are welcome. Please care for your dogs properly and disclose any special info about them so we can all respect boundaries. I can’t promise kid-appropriate conversations within a group of mostly adults.

Before joining one of our group hikes:

We want you to to have the most fun and supportive experience possible! Ask yourself, “how does my body like to hike?” No hike is “one size fits all” and choosing the wrong trail could potentially harm you. What is your ideal mileage? Elevation gain? Feel free to ask any questions if you don’t know what some of this means. Beginners are so welcome! xo

Before you hit submit:

-Your RSVP is a commitment to joining, not a placeholder. Should you find you are unable to come, you are agreeing to let me know as soon as possible so that someone on the waitlist may take your place.
-No plus ones. Your friends, partners, mom, etc. must register on their own. The only exception is for your kids, but you must disclose that they are coming on your own form or via email. This is so we know exactly how many people are coming.
-All communications are through e-mail. No DMs on social media about the event.
-RSVPs close at 6pm (pst) the day prior to the hike.
