The Salmon River Trail is one of the closer-in trails on Mt. Hood. It’s suitable for beginner and moderate hikers. The trail is a mostly flat out-and-back, with the incline in the very middle, so it’s easy to skip if you want to. I can’t tell you what your body can do, but no hiker will be left behind! This is a social hike, so if you are someone who needs to crush miles, this may not be the group for you.

Meet at the trailhead at 10am! I’d also love to talk about carpooling to reduce our carbon footprint.

Trail stats:

Level: Easy to Moderate
Length: 7.2 miles
Elevation: 900 ft. gain
Type: out and back
***Permit: Northwest Forest Pass or $5 (cash) at the trailhead***
Drive time from Portland: 1h10m
Google map: “Salmon River Trail” (bring screenshot or hard copies of directions, you may lose reception.)

Please bring a water bottle and snacks. Not sure what the weather will be like, but be ready for possible rain and muddiness. Getting dirty and gross in nature is good for you!

I don’t want lack of transportation or gas money or parking fee to be a factor in someone deciding not to come. If you need help getting there, please get in touch with me and I’ll work it out for you. Lack of financial access is a huge barrier for many people, myself included, when it comes to the outdoors.
